Paying It Forward

Why Pay it forward?

Peace - one result of paying it forward...

Hard times, financial crises, foreclosures, unemployment, depression, FEAR!

In these difficult times, we believe that it is even more important than ever to reach out to those in need through kindness.

Giving is the #1 anti-depressant that is not a drug.  Consider sacrificing one thing from you’re daily routine; that cup of coffee, can of soda or eating out for lunch in order to help feed some one that is homeless or hungry.  Give up television for a day and go to a nursing home and read to our elderly.  Donate your time or money to a local charity.

Every act of kindness you extend helps to fill your personal cup of joy.  Commit to doing at least one act of kindness each day.  Then remember to ask the recipient to pay it forward.  You have no guarantee they will do so, but you will have them thinking.

Finally, be aware of acts of kindness you have received and promise yourself to pay it forward times three.  We challenge you to have the mindset of giving, no matter how big or how small.

Homeless Child - How many times do we step around a homeless person on the street? There are infinite possibilities for the ways in which the pay it forward concept could be done. “How many times do we step around a homeless person on the street? Oh my, we think.  That person certainly has a problem, but we let it remain their problem.  We would not normally think to stop and make it our own.  I bet each and every one of us has a warm sweater, or blanket in their closet that would never be missed. So why is that sweater or blanket still in your closet?

It’s a new way of thinking; to begin to see beyond our own problems and into the problems of others and figure out if there is a way we can help them.

The possibilities of ways in which to help others are limitless.  We need to remember that it does not need to be something earth shattering, it doesn’t need to be a big thing.

But it may seem like a big thing to the person you’re helping depending on their situation.  The driving force behind the Pay It Forward concepts is that the idea multiplies out, exponentially, to more and more people, touching their lives either directly or indirectly.

Commit to doing at least one act of kindness each day...

Because this is an idea that can affect everyone on the planet, we are hopeful that everyone will see himself or herself in someone else’s situation.  The movie and book "Pay It Forward" was not just a story about a couple of fictional characters....

It is about all of us.

Be aware of the acts of kindess you received -- and Pay it Foward...x3!!

How can *you* Pay it Forward?
By helping S.P.I.F.F. in one of three ways...

Pay it forward - Will it work?

Now of course not everyone will pay it forward; someone will break the chain.  The beauty of pay it forward is that as long as one person is doing it ~ its working!
You have the power to change the world by helping each other do what is right!

It is our hope that you will not wait until someone does something for you before you do something for them.  Start the chain, build the chain and make a difference in someone’s life.  You are the light of the world; all you have to do is flip the switch.

Children and Pay It Forward

Girls Helping Out

As adults and parents we tend to focus on ourselves and our family needs, not the needs of others.  Children however seem to focus on everything, they are sponges, wanting to absorb every piece of knowledge or information they can.  Remember children learn what they live!

Children at Salvation Army Kettle

Children are born learners, not leaders.  We tell them what they can watch on television, what they must eat for dinner, what clothes to wear, etc… and rightfully so; we are not just parents but we are also their teachers.  Our children look to us for direction, guidance, consistency, and most importantly love. As they grow older however we must recognize their ability to become leaders.

By teaching a child to be charitable we are helping the world become just a little better.  After all, that is what we really wish for our children – a kinder safer place to live.

Empowering a child with a positive element such as “pay it forward” gives them the prospect that they actually have a say about something important; something that can change the world.  This empowerment will in retrospect build character and confidence while enriching the lives of others and themselves.
